As Baptists in Africa prepare for the Last Quarter Evangelism Campaign, which will take place from 1st October-31st December, 2025, Pastor Oswald Nshimirimana of the Shammah Temple Fellowship, Paroisse Mukaza said it is the kairos moment to mobilize writers, designers, and digital evangelists to produce and distribute content aimed at unreached and hard-to-reach regions.
He said this later on Friday September 12th, 2025 during a training of Umwungere News aiming at equipping youths with digital tools so that they may use them to evangelize on social media and the internet, emphasizing on the necessity of training local churches and youths to become media missionaries.
Based on Revelation 7:9, He said that this verse 9 paints a powerful picture of the church victorious in heaven ( “…a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb…”).
“But there is still work to do.”, He said.
7,000 unreached groups with no access to the gospel
According to the Joshua Project and other mission databases, there are approximately 17,000 ethnolinguistic people groups in the world today (2025). Shockingly, around 7,363, representing 42% of all groups, are still considered unreached (Approximately 3.56 billion individuals, accounting for 43.6% of the global population.).
These figures underscore the vast number of communities still awaiting the Gospel.
In addition, there are also a large number of people with no access to the Bible in their local language, and no local church presence. According to Wycliffe, there are about 7,396 living Languages Worldwide and languages that till August 2025, 544 are languages without any Scripture translation.
According to Pastor Oswald Nshimirimana, this shows that there is still work to do to significantly bring the Word closer to every linguistic group.
Also the 10/40 Window spans regions between 10° and 40° north of the equator, encompassing parts of North Africa, the Middle East, and Asia are facing challenges for traditional missionary work due to political, cultural, and religious barriers. This area is home to approximately 8,949 total people groups with about 6,118 unreached People Groups that represent a population of 3.44 billion.
Pastor Oswald Nshimirimana challenges today’s churches, reminding them that in many of those areas, particularly in countries dominated by Islam, Hinduism, or state atheism, missionaries cannot enter due to strict regulations. In other words, traditional evangelism is restricted or outright banned.
“So how will these nations be reached?” – He asks.
Digital journalism: A strategic tool for evangelism
The media doesn’t need passports, visas, air tickets or even mission budgets. It simply needs internet access, local languages, and Spirit-filled content creators.
In areas where physical missionary presence is restricted, digital journalism emerges as a powerful alternative. Said Pascal Ndayikeza, Journalist and Founding Editor of The Baptist Chronicle Media.
He said :
“Online platforms can reach individuals in remote or closed regions without the need for visas or travel (accessibility). Also, digital content allows individuals to explore the Gospel privately, crucial in areas where open religious inquiry is discouraged (Anonymity). In addition, Digital media can be disseminated widely and rapidly, maximizing outreach efforts (scalability).
According to him, platforms like The Baptist Chronicle can play a pivotal role in this digital evangelism, creating and distributing content tailored to diverse audiences.
A Call to collaborate
We believe it’s time to go “beyond Jerusalem” — beyond traditional borders and methods. Let’s collaborate to harness digital media’s potential, bringing the message of hope to every corner of the globe.
Digital journalism, especially through Christian platforms like The Baptist Chronicle (https://www.baptistchronicle.com ), can:
– Share testimonies, Bible studies, and evangelistic articles.
– Be translated or adapted into local dialects.
– Be shared in closed countries through VPNs, social media, or underground digital networks.
– Equip believers already living in those regions who are digitally connected, even if isolated.
Would you join us in this vision? Would you support or partner with The Baptist Chronicle and other Christian media platforms to ensure that no people group is left unreached?
Please, contact us on [email protected] or on whatsapp +25769698215 Or visit our website : https://www.baptistchronicle.com for more details.
Because if we don’t go, and we don’t send, and we don’t publish, then who will represent those 7,000 unreached groups before the throne?
