Rwandan Apostle Paul Gitwaza Calls on Burundian Church to Invoke the Blood of Jesus Amid Ongoing Wars in the Region

During the second day of the four-day evangelical crusade in Bujumbura, Rwandan Apostle Paul Gitwaza said that the region is in deep uncertainty and continues to face successive massacres and bloodshed, adding that only Jesus’s Holy Blood can bring a lasting solution.

Reflecting on the biblical story of the city of Jericho, as found in the books of 2 Kings 2:19–20, Joshua 6 and 1 Kings 16:34, he explained how disobedience and the transgression of laws have led to consequences for future generations.

The four-day crusade, held from August 20 to 23, 2026, in the economic capital, Bujumbura. The evangelical meeting organized by the Zion Temple Celebration Center Church of Burundi, brought together people from various churches in Bujumbura. The gathering was part of the celebration of the 25th anniversary of Zion Temple Celebration Church in Burundi, under the theme “Rise Up and Walk,” drawn from Acts 3:6.

In his sermon, the founder of Zion Temple Celebration Center linked the region, including Burundi, to Jericho, one of the world’s oldest cities, with fertile land, abundant water and a rich history, which nevertheless remained under a curse for generations following the disobedience and after Joshua had restricted the city’s rehabilitation.

As a consequence, he said, several centuries later, under the reign of King Ahab (1 Kings 16:34), a man named Hiel of Bethel lost both of his sons—Abiram and Segub—because of his decision to lay the city’s foundation and set up its gates, fulfilling Joshua’s earlier prophecy.

In the same context, Apostle Gitwaza also illustrated the similarity between the story of Jericho and that of the first parents—Adam and Eve—who transgressed God’s law by eating from the forbidden tree. He underscored that “Achan was influenced by Jericho’s pleasures and took them, just as Eve saw the fruit, desired it, took it and ate it.”

As another illustration, he cited Hiel, who lost his two sons, just as Adam lost his children—Cain, who went away after killing his brother Abel—because of disobedience.

Referring to the case of Jericho, he believed that Burundi and other countries in the region, plagued by recurring wars, might also have faced curses linked to bloodshed in the past.

“The reason why our countries are constantly plagued by endless wars leads us to question the foundations of our nations. On what foundations did those who ruled them in the past build them? We want to know what they were founded upon so that we can then put an end to the spirit of bloodshed that prevails in these countries,” he said.

He added that Burundi was not left behind, saying that there are many tears because of the blood that has been shed.

“We must remove the ancient foundations. There is blood crying out in this city [Bujumbura]. There is blood crying out in the waters. There have been many sacrifices. There have been tears of relatives, tears of children and tears of husbands filling the atmosphere,” he said, calling on the Church in Burundi to invoke Jesus’s blood to save the nation.

According to Gitwaza, the food of demons is human blood, and a country founded on bloodshed attracts more demons. He also emphasized that only Jesus can save the region, appealing to Jesus’s Holy Blood to silence what he described as ancient bloodshed in the region.

“It is not intelligent people who will solve the problems of this country. It is not experts who will solve the problems of this country. Blood calls for blood. Where blood cries out, there is no development. There is no peace. There is division and hatred. But there is the blood of Jesus that silences every other blood,” he said.
